Winner of state level crop competition refuses to accept award

Imphal, July 05: Third winner of state level crop competition on Rice Paddy of 2013-2014 refused to accept the prize which was distributed today by Agriculture Department.
A prize distribution ceremony of ‘Rice crop competition’ for the year of 2013-2014 was organised today by the department of Agriculture, Government of Manipur at Directorate of Agriculture, Sanjenthong, Imphal. The competition was organised to encourage the farmers in producing more products on Rice Paddy, said S. Gunija Devi, Director of Agriculture, Government of Manipur who also attended the function as President. She said the farmers must attain the training programs on modern farming techniques organised by the Government.
Attending the function as Chief Guest, M.D. Abdul Nasir, Minister of Agriculture/Fisheries, Manipur, said the achievement of farmers means the achievement of Agriculture and all the farmers and the departments’ associates should cooperate and work together for the betterment in Agriculture Industries.
Rajesh Agarwal, IAS, Commissioner of Agriculture, Government of Manipur also attended the function as Guest of Honour and said the state can produce more crops as the land is rich with fertility. The department’s effort is to see improvement in their productivities. He further said there needs to have a procurement system for the farmer’s benefit.
Later, prizes were distributed to the winners of district and state level crop competition on Rice Paddy of 2013-2014.
It could be noted that the third winner of the state level crop competition Ahsem Priyokumar Singh from Sangdangkhong, Bishnupur district did not accept the prize. Addressing a press conference today at Manipur Press Club, Ashem Priyokumar said that he is a National Awardee of crop competition for the year of 2012-2013 and he is disappointed for awarding him the third winner of the state level competition. He said that he will not accept the prize distributed by the Agriculture Department.
