Imphal, June 20:

Dissatisfied with the handling of issues pertaining to the Wushu Association of Manipur and other district units of the association, founder members of Wushu’s apex governing body have requested that the State Government keep a close eye on the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Manipur.
In a press conference held today at the Manipur Press Club, founder members of the Wushu Association of Manipur and members of various district units expressed grave concern about the proliferation of parallel governing sport bodies and “inappropriate handling” by the Registrar of Cooperative Societies.
Given the unfortunate development, the speakers drew the attention of the Chief Minister to include and assist in resolving the issue in the proposed 100-day action plan in the larger interest of Wushu athletes and enthusiasts.
According to a founding member of the Manipur Wushu Association, the association was founded in 1990 and, after a long journey, reached an impasse on July 5, 2019, with some individuals attempting to govern the body in their own self-interest. After carefully reviewing the situation, the Court directed the Registrar of Cooperative Societies to intervene and arrange for the election of office bearers on July 7, the same year.
As the election process stalled, the founder members approached the Registrar of Cooperative Societies on March 4, 2020, but the process was halted due to subsequent waves of the Covid pandemic, he said.
Meanwhile, another problem arose for the Association, and the case was remanded to the Court on October 5, 2021. However, despite the High Court of Manipur’s ruling and the wishes of many stakeholders, an attempt was made to hold elections for office bearers on June 16 this year. According to him, the “controversial development” and “likely attempt” to recruit new association members astounded the founder members and other enthusiasts.
He also expressed concern that the tense situation, if not addressed by the appropriate authorities, could lead to unwelcome incidents.
He also highlighted the uproar and confusion experienced by district associations as a result of mismanagement on the part of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, such as the issuance of a new registration number to the Imphal East District Wushu Association in 2019 despite the fact that the association received its registration number in 2016; the relocation of the office address of the Imphal West Wushu Association from Sajirok to Singjamei Hao ground and the address of the Bishnupur District Wushu Association from Thounaojam to Nachou etc.
