A Comprehensive Book on Manipuri Cinema written by Meghachandra Kongbam to be launched

Imphal, April 1:

Legendary theatre director and writer Ratan Thiyam will launch a comprehensive book on Manipuri Cinema written by Meghachandra Kongbam, a member of International Federation of Film Critics, Indian Chapter (FIPRESCI-India) on April 3, 2022 Sunday at 2.30 pm at J.N. Manipur Dance Academy auditorium in Imphal, on the solemn celebration of the Manipuri Cinema 50 years. This book is the product of the author who has encountered multiple layers of stories of Manipuri Cinema in the last five decades.
The book entitled – Manipuri Cinema in English is divided into five chapters. The first chapter deals with the environment of the cinema before the actual birth of Manipuri Cinema. The second chapter focuses on the works of the pioneers of Manipuri Cinema. In the third chapter, the life and works of the second-generation filmmakers and producers are highlighted. The fourth chapter deals with Manipuri Cinema in the digital era. The last chapter discusses the issues of Manipuri Cinema.
The book contains more than 600 pages with hardbound cover. The book also carries the synopsis, cast and credits of all the Manipuri films certified by the Central Board of Film Certification from 1972 to the November end of 2021.
The original price of the book is Rs 1200/-. On the launching day, the book shall be available at Rs 900/-.
Professor M.C. Arun of Manipur University will speak about the book. M. Joy Singh IAS Commissioner (Art and Culture/IPR), Government of Manipur will preside over the function. Those readers and film lovers are welcomed at the event to celebrate the great moment of the Golden Jubilee Year of Manipuri Cinema.
Meghachandra Kongbam received Swarna Kamal for the Best Film Critic in the National Film Awards 2015. He did his post graduate degree in Journalism from the Benaras Hindu University in 1979 and retired as Director in the Department of Information and Public Relations, Government of Manipur. He is also a member of Film Critics Circle of India. He is currently the President of Film Society of Manipur, the third oldest film society in Northeast India. He regularly contributes articles on many cinema books published by the Federation of Film Societies of India and FIPRESCI-India and others edited by film scholars.
