The state of Manipur will go to the polls in two phases with elections of 38 constituencies in the first phase on February 27, 2022. The remaining 22 assembly constituencies will go to poll on March 3. The BJP Manipur Pradesh is fielding candidates in all the sixty constituencies however, the main opposition Congress party and others including the NPF, NPP, MPP, CPI, and others are likely to field candidates at only some assembly constituencies. Congress party expressed confidence in winning the majority number while NPP said that their party will be the major factor of whoever is forming government in the next state legislative assembly. Meanwhile, the BJP Manipur Pradesh still stands with their words of wining more than 40 seats in this election.
In a tete-a-tete with Imphal Times, L Veerjeet Singh, Spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Manipur Pradesh talked about the BJP poll strategy and elaborated more about the Jiribam Assembly constituency in the ensuing 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections.
“Jiribam still remains as the most destitute constituency in the state with no proper facilities for education, transport, health, housing, livelihood etc. despite of being an advantageous town bordering with Assam. I have been participating in various social and political issues concerning the state since my days in college as State General Secretary of All Manipur Students’ Union to Spokesperson of BJP, Manipur Pradesh. Jiribam is at the core of my heart and my political journey is wholly a sacrifice for the betterment of the people of this most exploited assembly constituency. I have no other agenda than a sincere effort to serve the people of Jiribam and bring a paradigm change in the development of the overlooked constituency,” Veerjeet, who is also the founder president of All Jiribam Working Journalists Union told his decision to contest for MLA from Jiribam.
L. Veerjeet said that at Jiribam maintaining communal harmony and ensuing peaceful co-existence is pivotal for all of us who are living in this cosmopolitan town. Besides improvement in healthcare with the up-gradation of the existing 50 bedded hospital to a full-fledged district hospital; improvement of education facilities on urgent basis with the establishment of a post-graduation level educational institute at the district headquarters of Jiribam; providing individual tap water connection to every household under Jal Jeevan Mission within 2022 and improvement of road connectivity were in his priority list of work to be taken place after being elected as representative of the constituency.
Almost all the government offices were shut down for years and immediately all these offices need to be re-opened. It hampered in all fronts causing undue inconvenience and waste of time as well as money. Within two months, all the government offices shall be re-opened. This will be the priority area of BJP, Veerjeet assured.
On good governance and transparency, Veerjeet said that Manipur could not develop when Jiribam remained as the crippled town of the state. People should actively participate in the electoral process and elect a truthful person as their representative for a determined and willful government.
“From the side of the government, there is an urgent need to implement a long-lasting recruitment policy. All the recruitment should be done purely based on merit and the result should be announced without any delay. Besides, we all have the responsibility of making a corruption-free society. Our population is less but the state has no dearth of talented people, if we are sincere and serious enough, change is inevitable and it could happen overnight”, he said.
Veerjeet further said that, drug abuse is a serious social menace in the state. All sections of the society need to support the present crusade of state government under War on Drug campaign. The trend of poppy plantation and the scale of contraband drugs being seized in the state is the manifestation of mass drug abuse and domestically produced drugs.
A solution is needed to prevent the production, selling, and abuse of drugs in the state. An alternative source of income generation for the poppy cultivators should be arranged while sensitizing the mass on the abuse of drugs. If we don’t save the present generation from the jaws of drugs, our future is very bleak.
Both the Central and State government is making all efforts to make us self-reliant by creating a favorable ecosystem for businessmen and entrepreneurs. Youths should be honed with their chosen skill set that would be an occupation in their future. Unlike before, banks and financial institutions have made a seamless loan process for MSMEs and potential entrepreneurs. Cottage industries should be booted while encouraging big companies to set up their units to generate more employment in the state.
