Protest galore demanding justice for Athuan Abonmai

Sit-in-protest held at Grace Colony, Students forms Human chain, CSOs resolve to intensify the protest

When people across the nation is observing the 152nd Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation – Mahatama Gandhi – Globally known as the icon of non-violence, here in the state of Manipur womenfolk staged protest with tears in their eyes demanding justice for the brutal killing of Social Activist Athuan Abonmai, while students bodies of the state KSA, AMSU, DESAM, AIMS and SUK form a human chain at Kwakeithel with placards demanding justice for the gruesome murder case. On the other hand, CSOs of the state have vowed to intensify the protest if the culprits involved in the kidnapping and the killing of the Social Activist are not punished at the earliest possible time.
“He was taken to attend the state function where the Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has launched several projects at Tamenglong Pologround and amidst tight security forces, he was kidnapped and brutally murdered”, an irate woman protestor at Grace Colony said.
“The Chief Minister is responsible for not being able to protect the civilian and we not only demand justice for Athuan Abonmai but also the resignation of Chief Minister”, Churtha, a woman protestor told media persons.
The protestors shouted slogans defying the inhuman killing.
On the other hand, five students bodies of the state KSA, AMSU, AIMS, DESAM , MSF and SUK also staged protests demanding justice for Athuan Abonmai. Volunteers of the students’ bodies form a human chain at the roadside of Kwakeithel Bazar in Tiddim Road by holding placards demanding justice for Athuan Abonmai.
“We will support any form of agitation by the JAC formed against the killing of Abonmai and will never retreat until justice has been delivered”, a student representative told media persons.
On the other hand in a meeting of the various civil society organization including AMSU,AMKIL,,NUPI SAMAJ, Tammi Chingmi, Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup, ANUL, NIMPAL, Thoubal Ima, UMO, Thanil, NIPCO, UPF, Mapi Council, CADA, UPACO , MAPFA, EEVFAM, EECHAL, MACHA LEIMA, has resolved to intensify the agitation demanding justice for Athuan Abonmai today. The meeting was held at the AMSU Head Quarter.
