A combined team of state security forces hunting the culprits involved in the killing of Athuan Abonmai today raided a hideout of the NSCN-IM cadres located around 7 KM south from the Tamenglong district headquarters. A source said that the combined police team after getting specific information cordoned and raided the area from 3 am and continue the raid till 7.30 am today. During the raid, flags of NSCN-IM, uniform, and other incriminating documents were reportedly recovered. However, some six to seven cadres who were present there escape as the security force approach taking advantage of the darkness as well as the hilly terrain.
Meanwhile, the state police team arrested 2 suspects in connection with the brutal murder of the former president of Zelianrong Baudi, yesterday. Both were produced before the Chief Judicial magistrate Tamenglong and the court granted 9 (nine) days remand in police custody for further investigation today, even as the police remanded for 15 (fifteen) days.
The accused namely Ponthanlung Panmei @ Paul (47) yrs S/o Langai Panmei of Konthoujam Miming Tribal Colony; and Lanchapou Bosco Gonmei (48) yrs S/o. (L) Gaikhangsingpou Gonmei of Langol Laimanai were arrested following investigations by the police team after Arai Abonmai, son of the deceased filed zero FIR at Lamphel Police station.
The accused persons were produced through video conference due to the Covid-19 pandemic which has seriously affected the State of Manipur.
