Chaoba slams Sports Department for weak performance in National Games

President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Manipur Pradesh, Th. Chaoba said that the officials and authority of Youth Affairs and Sports are responsible for state’s weak performance in the recently concluded 35 National Games, Kerala.
Chaoba said this while delivering his speech as the functional president of Run Marathon-2015, organized by Sports Cell; BJP Manipur Pradesh.
 In his speech Chaoba added that it is shame for the state, which is regarded as “powerhouse of sports” in the country, to stand 7th position in National Games. The weak performance of state in the Kerala National Games reflects the dishonesty and corruption minded attitude of the authority of Youth Affairs and Sports Department of the state. He said that many excellent players of the state had played representing other states and Services and won a large number of medals. This means that the state is not lack of good sportspersons.  However, due to lack of sincerity of the government many players cannot play for the state even though they want to do so. He also demanded that the concern authority should resign in order to bring a change in sports in the state. He also alleges that the government is playing politics in selecting Sports University in the state.
He said that a large number of players cannot be retained in the state as there is no sports policy in the state. Corruption in recruitment is one of the most important reasons for this. Therefore people of the state should start anti corruption movement is the state.
BJP’s Run Marathon-2015, organised under the theme anti corruption and good governance was participated by more than 500 athletes from the state.
In women category Sagolsem Premila of Yairipok stood first position while MK Mina Rashi of Yairipok Tulihal and T. Rusia of Ngairangbam stood second and third respectively. In men’s category Th. Sanjit Luwang of Yairipok Bishnunaha, O. Sanaton, Oinam Maning Leikai and L. Ranjan, Moirang stood first, second and third place respectively. Winners of both the categories have been awarded Rs. 30000 each while the second and third position holders have been awarded with Rs. 20000 each and 15000 each.
