The Manipur Students’ Association Delhi (MSAD) had filed a complaint letter against the Facebook Group, ‘Kanglei Emagi **’ on 16th June 2021 vid Ref. No MSAD/ MEMO/09/2021/06/16 to substantiate stringent action against the admin and the related members of the said group according to the due process of the law.
“We came across an FIR registered against the said group at the Imphal police and cyber-crime Police on June 12 from a complainant called Victoria Okram and Mingsel Foundation, a civil society organization. Apart from that, Manipur State Women’s Commission and Eta: North-East Womens’ Network and Manipur Film Forum have also complained about the group. MSAD has also submitted enough evidence about the page’s functionality which is of the highest obscene and offensive towards women of Manipur in general. The said group has been functioning since January 29th of this year as a hub for vulgar, obscene, obnoxious content insulting women and girls without their knowledge and consent”, the MSAD in its complaint stated.
The MSAD complaint said that the group is unlawful as it violates legal provisions relating to insulting the modesty of women, hate speech, sexual harassment, online bullying, and others as mentioned in, but not limited to the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act. The group is a disgrace to the growing youth and to the larger context in working for an egalitarian society, the MSAD said and added that after the different section has complained about this page, sixteen persons including three juveniles were apprehended in connection to running this page by Imphal west Police however, the admin of the group ‘Yumnam Piba’ the felon wander scot-free and is still propagating his demeaning behaviour of targeting women through Facebook messenger and by uploading their pictures with vulgar tagline.
MSAD received a complaint about the said group functioning in the same manner from a victim, where her photos are being posted with indecent language and messaging her with obscenity, it added.
MSAD while drawing the attention Cyber crime authority to look into this matter urged for the arrest of the main felon of all the wrongdoing of this group, ‘’Yumnam Piba” at the earliest.
“We urged to deploy all possible means to shut down the said page and all alike and give justice to all the victims. We have attached the recent evidence of the group’s functioning below”, the MSAD urged.
