The news about the resignation of the President of Manipur Pradesh Committee Govindas Konthoujam has worried the central leadership of the AICC. Even though Govindas has just mentioned “personal reason” in his letter for resignation submitted to the AICC president in charge, a source close to 6 times representatives from the Bishnupur Assembly constituency said that Govindas may have taken up the extreme decision as he was treated more like a puppet beside being appointed as the party President. Most of the important decisions were taken on the behest of the CLP leader and the CWC member and sometimes he had not been even informing on when to hold the CLP meeting. Some of the MLAs are not even informed or invited at some of the CLP meetings convened by the CLP leader Okram Ibobi Singh.
“Yesterday, 8 Congress legislatures were absent”, another source from MPCC said while not stating the concrete reason for the absence.
The source who didn’t want to disclose his name said that all that is on talk on media are somewhat right but as of now there is no official intimation from either MPCC President Govindas or any of the MLAs.
While Imphal Times Contacted a Congress legislature who was among the 8 MLAs absent from the CLP meeting, he said that as of now they haven’t made any decision to join the BJP even though some of them are not satisfied with the MPCC and the AICC leaderships. He said that they haven’t yet submitted any resignation neither they have shied away from the media for giving any comments.
“As for Govindas it may be true that he had tendered resignation but attaching 8 congress MLA is just speculative news”, the Congress legislature told Imphal Times.
Meanwhile, spokesperson of the MPCC Bhupenda has tweeted that AICC in charge of Manipur Bhakta Charan Das will be arriving in the state at 9 am tomorrow.
In his tweet, Bhupenda wrote – “As per the direction of Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi ji, AICC in charge of Manipur, Shri Bhakta Charan Das ji, former Union Minister, will arrive in Imphal by 9 AM tomorrow to meet with senior leaders and other leaders of the party in Manipur.
The Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi ji, is well aware of the developments in the state, and she is deeply concerned for the future of better Manipur.”
