Even as the ruling BJP as a political party is unlikely to face any deficiency in the party organizational strategy with no major political party seems to have the guts for challenging it, the saffron party leading government at both the center and the state is likely to face major problem among its party karyakarta when it comes to election.
Except in some assemble constituencies, the Congress party which had ruled the state for around 15 years now seems to have lost its faith in competing with BJP candidates. Normally, Manipur political theatre was never driven by political party ideology but more with the personality of the individual. And thus rumours are talking around of some aspirant candidates even from other political parties are all trying to make way to connect with the BJP in either one way or the other.
Now, leaving aside those assembly constituencies where BJP represent, at least 3 to 4 in every constituency including some area at Hill district assembly constituency are declaring themselves as a candidate of the BJP. But all know that a political party could only nominate one in an assembly constituency.
Frankly speaking, there are three aspirant candidates Assembly Constituency. All are young energetic and have full confidence in getting the BJP ticket for contesting the upcoming assembly election. But only among them will get the ticket and can the BJP give assurances that the two who are unlucky in getting the party ticket will support the candidate chosen among them. This has never happened except in Singjamei Assembly Constituency’s last election.
At Sugnu there is at least 4 aspirant candidate all campaigning under the banner BJP. Only one among them will get the party tick to contest as BJP.
The BJP seems strong right at the moment and is very strong as it is in power. All aspirant candidates have their own supporters at which they will follow no matter it is the BJP or another political party.
The way media sees today is certainly going to change in the coming 4/5 months, that is after the announcement of the candidate.
The BJP even though is most popular at the moment is likely to face hard game in the political theatre of Manipur during the upcoming election.
There is nothing wrong in saying that BJP strength may go down comparing today if the candidate name is not announced today. Politicking by delaying the announcement of party candidates who are deprived of BJP ticket to make sure that cannot escape or defect the party organizational structure will not work in a state like Manipur.
