Makru Bridge inaugurated; ‘I asked the main source of revenue of Manipur, the CM says that was the problem’ – Nitin Gadkari

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, while delivering a speech to the auspicious occasion of the inauguration of Makhru Bridge which started construction in 2016 today said that it is up to the leadership that can make an excellent socio-economic transformation of a state or the country.
He also said that the progress of any country is mainly from the growth of three sectors – Agriculture, Industries and Service Sector.
“I asked the Chief Minister of Manipur about the main revenue of the state, the answer from the CM was ‘That is the problem”, the Union Minister said but expressed hope that the Chief Minister of Manipur will certainly bring changes to the socio-economic condition of the state.
“I know that it is depending upon the leadership, an appropriate region with appropriate policy that you can make a socio-economic transformation, that is why it is important to have a visionary leader”, the Union Minister, known for his innovative ideas to the development of the country told the gathering during the inauguration. He added that under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, there will be a transformation of 100% in socio-economic sectors.  
Besides inaugurating the RCC Makru Bridge, the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari also laid the foundation stone of 16 National Highways Projects at the event held at City Convention Imphal.
Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari today inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 16 National Highway Projects in Manipur with an investment of Rs 4,148 crores covering a total length of 298 km. The projects will provide all-weather connectivity to Manipur with the rest of the country and the Neighbouring countries. They will boost the agricultural, industrial, and socio-economic progress of the region. These will also facilitate health care and emergency service to the remotest of the areas and generate employment and self-employment opportunities.
The estimated cost of the 16 National Highway Projects is 4148 crore rupees and has a total length of 298 Kilometers. Among the National Highway Project to be inaugurated tomorrow is the Makru RCC Steel Superstructure Bridge constructed along the National Highways 37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road) which has become the lifeline of Manipur.
Inaugurating the projects in Imphal, Gadkari said projects worth Rs 5000 crores have also been sanctioned for the state and the Detailed Project Reports (DPR) will be completed within six months and the work will start in a year’s time. He said the expansion of Highways in the state will be recommended under the Bharatmala Phase-II. He said Prime Minister is giving the highest priority to the northeast and road infrastructure will contribute to the development of Manipur and make it socially and economically strong. The Minister said water, power, transport, and communication are the four most important things for the development of industry, for generating employment, and for eradicating poverty. He said Manipur is a very beautiful state with immense potential for Tourism.
Gadkari sought the cooperation of all the stakeholders for resolution of problems and the completion of projects in a time-bound manner. He said the details of all the projects will be put on website.
