The much talk about Covid Appropriate Behaviour – the one and only means left to protect humankind from the attack of the deathly novel coronavirus , is not being taken seriously in almost all parts of the state particularly in the urban area.
Everyone has been hearing and many have been talking about following the Covid Appropriate Behaviour – at television shows, newspapers, webinars, and during camera meetings as the mass meetings itself will be violation of the Covid Appropriate Behaviour. Almost all citizens particularly between ages 15 to 60 years understand the meaning of Covid Appropriate Behaviour. But, one reason does not understand to us is why it is not being followed at a time when the Covid-19 Positive cases is on the rise and the rate of fatality due to the Covid-19 pandemic is not reducing.
If people fail to follow the so-called Covid Appropriate Behaviour, then should the government let it go as it is. There has been curfew and lockdown imposed for such a long time to curb the spread of the virus and during that those assigned for duty to curb the virus spike had plenty of times to make some rules – no just rules, but strict rules to make people follow the Covid-19 Appropriate Behaviour.
The government even though extended Lockdown had allowed opening the vegetable vendors and some shops during morning time.
If the authority relooked the first wave period, the way that people gathered and thronged to market place was seen and some critics even told the scene as a super spreader.
Why not the district administration authority prepared to make sure that Covid Appropriate Behaviour is being followed by everyone during the few hours open by the government during this lockdown. Why can the law enforcers be deployed for control of the congestion that is seen at almost all places?
Today morning shows a jam pack crowded some well dressed, some looks like more educated and some hasty buyers breaking all rules of the Covid-19 Behaviours while buying vegetables at Wangkhei Andro parking area. No law enforcers were seen, no awareness labels were noticed and some don’t seem to wear face masks.
The kind of behaviour seen today was scary. It seems the lockdown measures or the curfew being imposed will have no meaning if such a condition continues in the future. The lockdown and curfew will only mean a relief for government employees as they could stay at home enjoying their monthly salary. However, self employed people are facing the toughest time. Today’s scene at Imphal East indicates that the curfew may extend for more months as the scene seen today showed that there will be still a rise in the Covid-19 positive cases.
The people’s aggressive attitude who only waited to blame the government should at least learn to live by following the Covid Appropriate Behaviour. If not the district administrations should take up some serious measures to curb the Covid-19 pandemic. Because we the people should live and rules to live with safety should be prepared by those in the government making policy and implementing it.
