Thousands protest demanding justice for Sanaton Athokpam

As many as thousands of people today stage protest demonstrations demanding justice for Sanaton Thokchom.
Some stage sit-in protests at various places of Khurai area, while nearly thousands of them staged protest rallies shouting slogans against the alleged killing of Sanaton Thokchom. Sanaton Thokchom , an MBBS student pursuing 5th Semester at RIMS, who hailed from Khurai Thangjam Leikai Imphal East, was found dead hanging inside his hostel room on March 15. The family and locals alleged foul play and have been demanding a probe into the cause of the death as the way the student was found hung to death are suspicious.
Early today morning at around 9 am, a group of people came out in the street and tried to staged a rally, but a large number of police teams thwarted the attempt. A large number of police teams were seen in Khurai area and the situation was seen under control until a large number of people numbering around thousands of them came out on the street at around 1 30 pm. Before the rally, protesters were seen demonstrating at many places including at Khurai Lamlong blocking road and some at other places.
The protestors shouted slogans demanding justice for Sanaton Thokchom, terming the mysterious death as murder.
The team had also submitted a memorandum to the government for probe of the mysterious death.
During the protest, all shops and business establishments at Khurai Lamlong area has been shut down. Vehicular movements have been disturbed and police had a hard time controlling the large number of mob.
It may be mention that the Home department of the Government of Manipur has ordered a Magisterial inquiry into the death of (L) Sanaton Athokpam on March 23, The inquiry commission has been ordered to find out the facts and circumstances leading to the death and also to identify the person (s) responsible, if any, for the death.
