CM invites PM to lay foundation stone for National Sports University and Tallest Railway bridge

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lay the foundation stone for the first National Sports University at Yaithibi Loukol in Thoubal district and the World tallest railway bridge near Noney in Tamenglong district.According to an official source the state government has no plan to change the location for construction of the National Sports University at Yaithibi Loukol in Thoubal district even though there has been much opposition from the locals of the area as well as some section of the people of the state. The upcoming sports university will be the first of its kind in the whole nation and if it is established it will boost the prospect of youths from Manipur as well as youths from other North Eastern States to excel at National and International level of sports.The railway bridge planning to be constructed near Noney in Tamenglong district is slated to become the tallest bridge in the world with the height of its pillar upto 141 metres (462 ft) from the ground. The upcoming bridge will surpass the existing lallest bridge in the world  – Mala-Rijika Viaduct on Belgrade-Bar Railway in Europe where the pillar height is 139 metres. The upcoming bridge near Noney is a part of the Jiribam-Tupul railway line. Most of the construction works has been reported construction. The railway track for the stretch is laid either through tunnels or bridging the deep gorges.
