Bombayla Devi & Tripura’s Thanga Darlong conferred Padma Shri award

Manipur’s very own Laishram Bombayla Devi has been awarded the Padma Shri for distinguished service in Sports (Archery).

Congratulating her, Chief Minister, N Biren Singh wished her all the best for

her future endeavour.

 Devi is amongst the nine leading sportspersons from nine disciplines including Prashanti Singh (basketball), Harika Dronavalli (chess), Gautam Gambhir (cricket), Sunil Chhetri (football), Ajay Thakur (kabaddi), Bachendri Pal (mountaineering), Sharath Kamal (table tennis) and Bajrang Punia (wrestling) who have been awarded one of the highest civilian award in the country.

From Tripura, famous art-music-flute (rosem) artist, Thanga Darlong (96) has been nominated for the Padma Shri Award.

Thanga Dharlong, who hails from Kailashahar, was acknowledged with National Sangeet Natak Academy Award in 2014, followed by Academic Fellowship Award in 2015 and the state level Vayoshresta Samman in 2016. He was also honored with the Centenarian award.

The Padma Shri awards are announced every year on the occasion of Republic Day.

This year, the President of India Ram Nath Kovind, has approved conferment of 112 Padma. The list comprises 4 Padma Vibhushan, 14 Padma Bhushan and 94 Padma Shri Awards. Out of these 21 awardees are women, 11 person from the Foreigners /NRI/PIO/OCI category, 3 Posthumous awardees ans 1 transgender awardee.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb congratulated Darlong on his achievements on twitter. Also wrote that Thanga Darlong is an exceptional musical genius from Tripura.

An exceptional musical genius from Tripura, Shri Darlong has made exemplary efforts for nurturing the indigenous culture of NorthEast especially the art of playing Rosem musical instrument.
