Patriotic People’s Front Assam (PPFA), expressing concern over government inactions against fabricated and unruly comment & activities by some individuals, has urged the people of Brahmaputra and Barak valleys to maintain communal harmony in the time of crisis. In a statement, issued to the media, the forum of nationalists maintained that every Indian has democratic rights to express his views and adopt actions, but that must not go beyond the practiced rules. Moreover, participating in any political debate, one should not threaten the opponents, even verbally. “We have observed that on the issue of citizenship amendment exercises (by the Union government in New Delhi), a section of individuals in Assam have made illogical and unruly comments leaving aside their political conscience. We agree that the voice of dissidents should be raised in need, but that must not encourage indulging in illegal activities,” said the PPFA. It may be noted that following the Assam Bandh by many organizations and Asom Gana Parishad sponsored rally against the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 on 23 October 2018, various individuals representing different organizations start making outrageous comments against particular communities. Some of them even did not hesitate to declare that they would ‘attack’ the opponents to impose their point of views. “What is shocking that, the State government and concerned authorities remain mute spectators to such unruly comments & activities by some individuals in the public domain. Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, also in charge of State home portfolio, should treat it as his call,” asserted the forum. Finally, the forum appealed to everyone living in Assam including the politicians, former rebel leaders, social activists etc to exercise retrains over comments on various socio-political issues and respect the opponent views. It also requested the social media users to be judicious while putting their views in alternate media maintaining due decencies.
