IRB personnels accused of kidnapping and murder terminated

Imphal, July 11: A proposal was sent to the DGP for dismissal of Laishram Herojit Singh (34), S/o L. Ibotombi Singh of Lamshang Laingamkhul, Rifleman No. 09201247, B-Coy of 1 IRB, Kangla & Yumnam Dinesh Singh (28), S/o (L) Angouba Singh of Waheng khuman Mayai Leikai Rifleman No. 112005777, D-Coy of 1 IRB, Kangla on charges of kidnapping and murder of a civilian for ransom. It may be mentioned that the two IRB Personnel were arrested in connection with the abduction and murder of Shankarlal Swami (51), a plywood factory manager from Rajathan, who was temporarily staying at Thangal bazaar from inside Kangla while he was jogging in the morning of January 1. His body was later found at a fish farm in Wahengkhuman under Imphal West the following day.  Swami has been working as manager of Max Enterprises, a popular plywood store, near his temporary residence. A group of IRB personnel has been guarding Kangla fort since the Assam Rifles vacated the fort in 2004. According to a reliable source close to Imphal Times, the two accused have been terminated from service.
