The International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies was observed in Manipur today under the theme “Racing for Air”. The programme was jointly organized by the National Health Mission, Manipur’s National Programme on Climate Change & Human Health, and the Directorate of Health Services.
The event was held at Lecture Hall 2 of the RD Wing Complex, State Family Welfare Training Centre (SFWTC), Lamphelpat. Director of Health Services Dr. Chambo Gonmei graced the programme as the chief guest, while Director of Family Welfare Services Dr. N. Hemantakumar and Additional Director of Health Services Dr. N. Bino attended as presidium members. Students also actively participated in the event.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Hemantakumar stressed that “air is one of the most essential elements for human survival, something everyone is fully aware of.” However, he pointed out that air pollution caused by various human activities has led to multiple health hazards. He added that it is now crucial for society to identify practical measures to mitigate this growing threat.
Dr. Hemantakumar further remarked that tackling air pollution requires collective effort and consistent awareness campaigns. He noted that unchecked pollution not only deteriorates the environment but also poses long-term risks to human health and well-being. A tree plantation programme was also held in connection with the observance.
