Entrepreneur Arunkumar Thangjam of Arun Enterprises, who is preparing to contest in the upcoming 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election from15 Wangkhei Assembly Constituency, Imphal and joined the Indian National Congress on August 31, 2021, have tendered resignation from the primary membership of both Congress Party and PCC membership. A resignation letter was submitted to the President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee today. Except giving the reason as “some personal issue, the intending candidate had mentioned nothing in his resignation letter.
As of now, Arunkumar Thangjam cannot be contacted for comment, but his close associate said that he resigned from the party due to pressure from his supporters of Wangkhei Assembly constituency. He refused to comment on naming any political party that Arunkumar Thangjam may join. However, political analysts suggested that he may choose any of the political party partners with the NDA. Talks are also going on about his joining the BJP. Explaining the possibility of his entering the BJP, a Political analyst who refused to disclose his name said that sitting BJP MLA Y Erabot may settle with him due to the age factor.
Some other political analysts, however, suggested that Arunkumar Thangjam may join the NPP, as the political party is looking for an effective candidate for the Wangkhei Assembly Constituency.
However, as of now, there is no official announcement from the side of Arunkumar Thangjam in connection with joining any political party.
