The Indo-Myanmar Association observed the 7th death anniversary of Lamtakpa Kakchingtabam Sunder Gopal Sharma at the Loktak Hall of Manipur Press Club in Imphal.
Members of the Indo-Myanmar Association offered floral tributes to the portrait of the late Eigya Kakchingtabam Sundergopal Sharma, also known by his Myanmarese name U Htun Shwe.
Addressing the gathering, President of the Indo Myanmar Association, Shambanduram Shamu, recalled the tragic road accident that claimed the life of the late Sundergopal Sharma on March 15, 2017, while he was guiding Manipuris visiting Mandalay from Mandalay to Tamu.
Shamu emphasized the significant contribution of Late Sundergopal Sharma to the Manipuri community of Mandalay, asserting that his legacy will endure for generations. Known as Lamtakpa, Sundergopal played a crucial role in bridging the gap between Manipuri descendants in Myanmar and Manipur, bringing them closer together.
“Lamtakpa Sundergopal Sharma has always supported the Manipuri Meitei in visiting the Meiteis who had settled in Myanmar”, Shamu said.
The event commemorating the 7th death anniversary of Kakchingtabam Sundergopal Sharma was graced by the presence of Phurailatpam Nandakumar Sharma, Guest Faculty from the Department of Foreign Languages at Manipur University, and Saratchand Thiyam, recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award.
