Income Tax Department organized “Cyclothon” and “Cultural Fest” at Imphal

The Income Tax Department has been proudly celebrating Azadika Amrit Mahotsav—the celebration and commemoration activities promoted by the Government of India to mark the occasion of 75 years of India’s independence.
As part of celebrations under the aegis of AzadikaAmritMahotsav, the office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, North East Region, Guwahati organised a series of Cyclothon events across the North East Region during the period 06/12/2021 to 12/12/2021 covering prominent places and monuments of national importance in the Region and creating awareness on “Transparency in Taxation”.
The final leg of the event was held at Imphal on 12th December, 2021 by organising a Cyclothon for the general public from Imphal to Moirang.
The Cyclothon was flagged off at 7 am jointly by the guests of honour renowned International Cyclist C. Rameshwori Devi; and popular actors Biju Ningombam and Bonny Gurumayum along with G.G. Kamei, IRS, Commissioner of Income Tax (Administration), Guwahati.
More than 200 cyclists participated in the Cyclothon which commenced from ShahidMinar, Imphal and culminated at INA Memorial, Moirang. The participants included L. Ibomcha Singh, Dronacharya Awardee in Boxing and Shamjetsabam Sarjubala Devi, former World Youth Boxing Champion among other dignitaries.
The message of “Transparency in Taxation” was spread through announcements and distribution of pamphlets to the general public along the route. The cyclists were supported by hydration points, support vehicles, ambulance and volunteers all along the route of the Cyclothon.
Floral tributes, led by renowned International Cyclist C. Rameshwori Devi, L. Ibomcha Singh, Dronacharya Awardee in Boxing and G.G. Kamei, IRS, Commissioner of Income
Tax (Administration), Guwahati, were offered to freedom fighters at the historic site in INA Memorial, Moirang where the national Tricolor was hoisted for the first time on Indian soil on 14th April, 1944.
Certificates and medals were distributed to the participants at the closing ceremony held at Sendra.
In line with the noble spirit behind Azadika Amrit Mahotsav, a Cultural Fest-cum-Felicitation Ceremony was held in the evening at Hotel Imphal by-the-Classic, Imphal to celebrate the indomitable spirit of freedom; the glorious history of our country; and its culture and achievements.
G.G. Kamei, IRS, Commissioner of Income Tax (Administration), Guwahati delivered the keynote address on the occasion wherein she acknowledged and appreciated the important role played by taxpayers in nation building. She highlighted the initiatives taken by the Income Tax Department towards better delivery of taxpayer services and grievance redressal. Carrying forward the message of “Transparency in Taxation”, she spoke about the reforms in tax administration including introduction of faceless regime in the Department. Acknowledging the contributions made by eminent citizens belonging to different walks of life towards nation building, she stated that the Department is proud and privileged to honour the eminent achievers.
The following eminent citizens who embody the spirt of freedom of expression and service to society and who have made stellar contributions in the areas of art, culture, sports and social service were honoured and felicitated on the occasion:
(1) Laiphrakpam Ningol Oinam Ongbi Dhoni Devi in recognition of her rich contributions in the field of Maibi tradition of Lai Haraoba.
(2) Gangmei Aluna Kabuini in recognition of her valuable contributions in the field of Kabui Folk Dance.
(3) Lourembam Bedabati Devi in recognition of her excellence and contributions in the field of traditional Manipuri folk art KhunungEshei.
(4) Laishangbam Anita Chanu in recognition of her meritorious achievements as a premier weightlifting coach of India
(5) Ringyuichon Vashum in recognition of her social work of empowering underprivileged women
(6) Tekcham Ranjita Devi in recognition of her meritorious achievements as a premier international football referee.
(7) Kakchingtabam Shanathoiba Sharma in recognition of his outstanding contribution towards promotion of traditional Manipuri martial art form of Thang Ta.
(8) Ningthoujam Borchand Meitei for his significant contributions towards promotion of traditional Manipuri performing art form of Pena.
(9) Hodam Gyaneswor Singh in recognition of his outstanding achievements as an International Badminton Referee
(10) Guru Rewben Mashangva in recognition of his distinguished contribution towards resurrecting Manipur’s Tangkhul Naga heritage
(11) Shougrakpam Hemanta Singh in recognition of his outstanding contribution in
the field of traditional Manipuri form of theatre—ShumangLeela
(12) Leishangthem Ibomcha Singh in recognition of his stellar achievements as a premier Boxing Coach.
The Cultural Fest saw scintillating performances by troupes of Guru Rewben Mashangva, Lourembam Bedabati Devi, Manipuri Jagoi Marup, Rhythms of Manipur and Folk Ensemble Manipur.
Chabungbam Deepak Singh, IRS, Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS), Guwahati delivered the Vote of Thanks.
The Cultural Evening concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
