Imphal-Yairipok Road shutdown

Imphal, August 11: Disappointed locals have indefinitely shut down the Imphal-Yairipok Road since last midning of August 10, 2017 protesting against the non-repair of the road. The locals resorted to blocking of the road after the authority fails to comply with the demands made to repair the road on or before August 10, 2017. The disappointed locals blocked the road stretch from Kongba Bazar till Irilbung restricting plying of any kind of vehicles along the stretch, however, students, medical related and other essential services were relaxed. Speaking to the media persons, M Dyamenti, President of Kongba Bazar Women Development Committee said that the condition of the ImphalYairipok road has worsen as the concern authorities fails to acknowledge the importance of the road and non-repair of the road for more than 10 years. The road has become an accident prone due to its pathetic condition and many have lost their life on the road due to accident, she added. Dyamenti also said that if the Chief Minister of Manipur had travelled the Imphal-Yairipok road in the recent Pineapple festival held at Yairupok, he would have witness how worst the condition of the road but unfortunately it dint happen instead they past travelled through the smooth road to attend the festival which very unfortunate for the public. Different form of agitation will take place if the concern authority and state government fails to repair the road at the earliest even indefinite shut down of the road, she added. Mention may be that ImphalYairipok Road United Club Organisation (IYRUCO), a cluster of 18 clubs has warned of shutting down the Imphal Yairipok Road if it was not repair on or before August 10, 2017
