Imphal Nagas sets to organise mass rally over abduction of six civilians

The Naga People’s Union Imphal (NPUI) and the Imphal Naga Business Association (INBA) have announced a large-scale peaceful protest rally in Imphal on May 25, along with a complete shutdown of Naga-owned business establishments across the Imphal Valley, demanding the safe release of six Naga civilians allegedly abducted earlier this month.
According to a press statement issued on Saturday, the NPUI said the “Peaceful Mass Rally Protest” will begin at 10 am and conclude with the submission of a memorandum condemning the alleged abduction of six civilians from Leilon Vaiphei on May 13, 2026. The organisation described the incident as the continued detention of innocent civilians and called for urgent intervention to secure their release.
The NPUI has appealed to all Nagas residing in the Imphal Valley to participate in large numbers, wearing traditional attire as a symbol of unity and collective resolve. Participation is expected from youth organisations, women’s groups, church leaders, and civil society bodies.
The statement, jointly signed by NPUI President M. Ngaranmi and General Secretary H.B. Kewarhring, said the protest represents a collective voice against the abduction and ongoing insecurity faced by the community.
In a separate notification, the Imphal Naga Business Association (INBA) directed all Naga-owned shops and business establishments in the Imphal Valley to remain closed on May 25 in solidarity with the protest.
INBA stated that the shutdown is being observed in support of the abducted civilians, including pastors, and to express concern over their safety and dignity. It further warned that any violation of the shutdown directive would invite strict action as per the association’s resolutions.
The appeal, issued by INBA President Julia Shinglai and Secretary B.T. Bezaleep, urged full cooperation from traders and business owners in the larger interest of community solidarity and collective security.
The proposed rally and shutdown come amid rising tension and growing public concern over the continued whereabouts of the six missing Naga civilians.
