Imphal, Jan 16:
The Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee passionately demands life imprisonment for all individuals implicated in the distressing assassination case of SDPO Chingtham Anand Kumar in Moreh. This fervent plea was underscored as members of the Ima Keithel staged impactful sit-in protests, channeling their collective voice for justice.
Y Ibeyaima, the co-convenor of the committee, articulated, “The two Kuki terrorists involved in the killing of Anand, who have been apprehended, are also implicated in the arson and expulsion of Meiteis residing in Moreh. These distressing details have already found their way into today’s newspapers. Despite this, these terrorists have garnered support from Kuki individuals in Moreh, who vehemently demanded their release at the police station. Consequently, we are staging sit-in protests to voice our vehement opposition to this matter.”
In a poignant appeal to both the Central and Manipur Governments, Ibeyaima urged, “Do not succumb to pressure; do not fall into the trap set by those supporting these terrorists. In accordance with the rule of law, these two perpetrators must face just and lawful consequences for their actions.”
In a noteworthy development, security forces on Monday successfully apprehended the principal accused, Philip Khaikholal Khongsai, along with his accomplice Hemkholal Mate, linked to the assassination of Moreh SDPO Anand Kumar. The arrest has instilled a sense of hope among the people of Manipur, indicating that the Manipur Police are actively fulfilling their duty to apprehend those responsible for civilian deaths.
However, this sense of hope is tempered by lingering dissatisfaction among the public. While arrests have been made in the cases of Linthoingambi and Hemanjit, the whereabouts of their bodies remain unknown, leaving a palpable sense of unease and unrest in the community.
