People of the state today observed Ima Emoinu Irat Thouni Thouram to mark the return of the Indigenous Meitei deity to the residence of her daughter-in-law Piyainu. The goddess was brought by her son Challamba from his father Khuman Kwakpa’s palace and handed over to his mother Piyainu.
The Emoinu Festival was celebrated with different flavor at different places of the state.
League of Callow Patriots (LCP), a local club at Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal celebrated the Ima Emoinu Irat Thouni Thouram as Emoinu Ningtham Kumhei at Ningthem Pukhri Mapal, Wangkhei. This is the 39th year that the club is celebrating the Emoinu Festival
As part of the festival various vegetable stalls which sold indigenous vegetable varieties which are used for offering to Goddess Emoinu called “Emoinu Athenpot Keithel” was also open at the festival site.
Speaking to few media persons regarding the festival, K Pradepkumar, Ex. General secretary, LCP informed that this year’s theme “Promotion of Indigenous culture and Sustainable Economy” expecting to encourage and give thrust to widen the significance of Emoinu Festival in Manipuri Society.
League of Callow Patriots (LCP), a local club at Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal has been taking initiative in popularizing the significance of the Festival in the Society since 1978.
Kangla Religious Committee also observed Ima Emoinu rituals function at Kangla Uttra Sanglen today. As part of the function Kangla Uttra religious leaders performed Pena, rituals songs and read scriptures on Emoinu deity. People were offering seasonal fruits/vegetables to marked Imoinu religious celebration associated with the majority Meitei community in the state.
Generally, on this day every meitei household offered prayer to Ima Emoinu by offering prayer in their own home. Emoinu is the goddess of wealth.
