Manipur IGP (Operations) IK Muivah has dismissed allegations of ethnic bias within the state’s police force, while also addressing the ongoing student protests, urging demonstrators to refrain from violence. In a press briefing, Muivah refuted claims made by a senior retired officer suggesting that the Manipur police were divided along ethnic lines, specifically as “Meitei police” and “Kuki police.”
“We want to clarify that the Manipur police consist of officers from all communities, including those from the mainland, Kukis, Nagas, and Meiteis. The claim is immature and baseless,” Muivah stated during the briefing.
The IGP also addressed concerns related to the recent drone bombing incidents, affirming that the state police had already clarified the matter on their official media platforms and stand by those statements.
Regarding the widespread student protests currently gripping the state, Muivah appealed for calm, urging students to avoid violent actions that could lead to further complications. He also indicated that vested interest groups might be behind the unrest and assured that the police are actively monitoring social media platforms for any signs of instigation.
