If every person plants a tree in the name of their mother, we can help protect the earth from global warming – N Kunjarani

Padma Shri awardee and retired CRPF Commandant Nameirakpam Kunjarani today called upon people to plant trees in the name of their mothers, stating that such collective efforts could contribute significantly to combating global warming and protecting the environment.

She was speaking at a tree plantation programme titled “Imasingbu Ningshingduna Upal Thaba” (Planting Trees in Memory of Mothers) held at an Old Age Home at Langjing Achouba in Imphal West district. The programme was organised in honour of mothers residing at the home and mothers across the world.

Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Kunjarani said the growing threat of global warming has become a matter of serious concern, with temperatures rising steadily each year and affecting not only human beings but all forms of life on Earth. She urged people to refrain from indiscriminate felling and burning of trees and instead cultivate the habit of planting and preserving them.

“Every person should plant at least one tree in the name of their mother. Such efforts will help protect the environment and contribute to addressing the challenges posed by global warming,” she said.
Kunjarani also stressed the importance of nurturing planted saplings, stating that plantation drives would serve little purpose if the trees are not cared for and allowed to survive.

The programme was attended by W. Nandini Devi, Second-in-Command of 86 Battalion CRPF Headquarters, Lamphel, as a special guest. Advisors of the Old Age Home, including R.K. Maipaksana Singh, Dr. T.M. Rajen Ayangba, Rakesh Naorem and legal advisor Laimatum Gangarani, were present as distinguished guests. The event was presided over by Dr. Mayengbam Kamala, President of the Old Age Home.

Residents of the home, Executive Member Surjit Laikhuram and Secretary K.C. Gita also participated in the plantation drive.
