IDP warns of fast-unto-death protest from May 4

An internally displaced person (IDP), Wangjam Premjit, currently residing at a relief camp at Thambalmarik College in Oinam after being displaced from Torbung, has warned of launching a fast-unto-death protest if peace is not restored in Manipur by May 3, 2026.
Speaking to media persons at the relief camp, Wangjam Premjit said he would begin the protest from May 4 if the State and Central governments fail to resolve the crisis, including addressing the presence of alleged Chin-Kuki narco-militants and restoring normalcy.
He alleged that since May 3, 2023, the state has witnessed widespread violence, including arson, destruction of homes, loss of lives, and atrocities against women and children, blaming Chin-Kuki “narco-terrorist” groups and accusing authorities of failing to control the situation.
Wangjam Premjit cautioned that prolonged instability in Manipur could have wider national implications and expressed dissatisfaction with the response of elected representatives and successive governments. He added that IDPs, facing prolonged hardship, are closely monitoring developments and may take further collective action if their concerns remain unaddressed.
