House in Greenland Tang reduced to ashes in devastating fire

IT Correspondent
Ukhrul, May 20:

In a tragic incident, a house in Greenland Tang, Ukhrul, was destroyed by a fire on Sunday evening, leaving nothing but cylinders and ashes in its wake. The fire obliterated three bedrooms and a godown and necessitated the demolition of a kitchen by local residents to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby homes.
The property, belonging to Eno. Ningreisang, also known as Aboipa Kaping (43), son of the late Tuishim Kaping, caught fire due to an electrical short circuit at approximately 6:20 PM. Family sources reported that the fire originated in the center of one of the bedrooms and quickly spread in both directions, ultimately engulfing the adjacent godown. At the time of the incident, the parents were not at home, leaving only the children in the kitchen, which is about seven meters from the bedroom.
Upon noticing the fire, the children immediately alerted their uncle, who lived next door. However, by the time help arrived, the fire had already consumed nearly half of the house. Aboipa Kaping, the distressed homeowner, recounted that he was buying vegetables from local vendors when he received the devastating news. He rushed back home, but the fire had already taken its toll by the time he arrived.
The inferno resulted in the complete destruction of property worth approximately 31 lakhs. The fierce flames were eventually subdued by hundreds of local residents and the timely intervention of the Ukhrul Fire Brigade Department.
