Imphal, Nov 28:

The Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF), Manipur, in collaboration with the Manipuri Women Literary and Cultural Organization, Hojai, Assam, will host a special event on December 10th from 10 AM to 12 PM. The event will honor the legacies of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat and Nupi Lalgi Mitam 2. Forum President Naoroibam Khamba Luwang and Secretary Rakesh Naorem will lead the ceremony at the Manipuri Women Literary & Cultural Organization’s premises in Hojai, Assam.
The statues of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat and Nupi Lalgi Mitam 2 arrived in Hojai yesterday via an Indigo Flight. Upon arrival, local residents paid their respects by lighting torches in tribute.
In a statement, Rakesh Naorem, Secretary of the PAWF, outlined the upcoming events to commemorate these two iconic figures. On December 10th, a half-sized statue of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat will be unveiled at Nandapur, Hojai, followed by the unveiling of a life-sized statue of Nupi Lalgi Mitam 2 on December 12th at Gobindapur, Hojai. The celebrations are expected to attract participants from all walks of life in Assam, as they pay tribute to the profound contributions of these figures to the Manipuri community.
The events will emphasize the pivotal role that Meitei women played in the nationalist movements of 1904 and 1939, moments that shaped the history of Manipur. These movements were marked by significant resistance led by Meitei women, and the unveiling of these statues aims to honor their courage and commitment to the cause of patriotism and nationalism. The PAWF hopes to inspire a deeper understanding of the Meitei women’s contribution to India’s history and to further recognize their significant role in shaping the nation’s freedom struggle.
