HKL-THYSO launch massive peace patrol across Ukhrul town

Special Correspondent
Ukhrul, May 7:
Two of the most influential student bodies in Ukhrul district — Hunphun Katamnao Long (HKL) and Thawaijao Hungpung Youth Students’ Organisation (THYSO) — have jointly launched a large-scale volunteer-driven initiative aimed at restoring peace, discipline, and public harmony in Ukhrul headquarters.
The joint operation, carried out on the evening of May 6, witnessed the participation of nearly 100 volunteers, including executive members and youth volunteers from both organisations. Teams patrolled various parts of Ukhrul Town, including the Eastern and Western Circular Roads, using 12 vehicles to monitor compliance with newly imposed public safety directives.
The student bodies stated that the initiative was undertaken in the larger interest of maintaining law and order, safeguarding civilians, and ensuring peaceful coexistence amid the prevailing fragile atmosphere in the district. Residents have been strongly urged to cooperate fully with the volunteers and avoid unnecessary movement during nighttime hours.
As part of the emergency public regulations issued earlier, movement of individuals in public places between 8 pm and 5 am has been strictly restricted unless supported by valid and verifiable reasons. Minors have also been prohibited from remaining outside during these hours unless accompanied by parents or guardians. Consumption of alcohol, public disturbances, shouting, fighting, and other forms of disorderly conduct during nighttime have been strictly prohibited.
The notification further imposed restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles within town limits from 8 am to 5 pm, except for emergency and essential service vehicles. All vehicles operating within Ukhrul Town have been directed to maintain a speed limit of 20 kmph, while volunteers cautioned the public against exceeding 30 kmph under any circumstances.
In a strong move against noise pollution, vehicles fitted with modified exhaust systems or producing excessive noise have also been banned.
To strengthen monitoring mechanisms, every locality in Ukhrul Town has been instructed to nominate five responsible individuals to report violations to the authorities. Student welfare measures were also highlighted, including a ban on the sale of tobacco products and intoxicants to students, along with mandatory concessional taxi fares for students in uniform carrying valid identity cards.
HKL and THYSO reaffirmed that strict action would be taken against violators and appealed to the people of Ukhrul to extend maximum cooperation in preserving peace, public safety, and social harmony in the town.
