Imphal, Mar 2:
The Ethno-Heritage Council (HERICOUN) organized a media conclave today at Manipur Dance College, Konung Mamang, emphasizing the role of media in preserving indigenous heritage and countering biased narratives in the ongoing conflict.
Held under the theme “Achangba Khunai Ama Sembada Mediagi Thoudang”, the event brought together key figures from the media and cultural sectors. Khogendro Khomdram, President of the Editors’ Guild Manipur, attended as the Chief Guest, while HERICOUN President Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar Khuman presided over the function.
Bijoy Kakchingtabam, President of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU), was present as the Guest of Honour.
The program began with traditional offerings and a ceremonial exchange of mementos. Addressing the gathering, Bijoy Kakchingtabam strongly criticized the Editors’ Guild of India (EGI) for its biased reporting on the ongoing crisis in Manipur. “We have submitted point-by-point mistakes and problems in their report. Their narrative reflects a selective and misleading portrayal of the conflict,” he stated.
HERICOUN President Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar Khuman reiterated the need to resist external misrepresentations and work closely with the media to protect Manipur’s interests. “Our organization has been working relentlessly, but we need to join hands with the media community to defend Manipur from distorted narratives,” he asserted.
