The National People’s Party (NPP) has appointed Irengbam Hemochandra Singh as its new National Vice President. The appointment was made by the party’s National President under the powers vested in Article 11 of the NPP Constitution, and he will assume office with immediate effect for the 2025–2028 tenure, the party announced.
Irengbam Hemochandra Singh is a prominent political figure in Manipur with a long and distinguished career. He served as a five-time MLA from Singjamei Assembly Constituency and held several key ministerial portfolios in previous state governments. He was elected Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly in 2010, becoming the 21st and youngest Speaker, securing unanimous support from both ruling and opposition members.
Hemochandra Singh was a long-time member of the Indian National Congress before resigning from the party in March 2024, citing a loss of confidence in its state leadership. His departure ended decades of association with the party.
Analysts said that his induction as National Vice President marks a significant development within the NPP, as the party positions itself to strengthen its organisational structure by bringing experienced leaders into its national fold.
