Heavy rains in the last 24 hours have triggered flash floods and waterlogging in parts of Imphal East, Imphal West, and Thoubal districts, disrupting normal life today.
In Imphal East, waist-deep floodwaters submerged Yaingangpokpi, Santikhongbal, and Sabungkhok Khunou, with water entering residential compounds and houses. In Imphal West, waterlogging was reported from Kakwa and Sagolband areas.
The relief camp set up at Wangjing Kodompokpi Sports Complex in Thoubal District has been severely waterlogged following flash flooding. The situation has added to the hardships of displaced residents seeking shelter at the facility.
Officials said water levels of major rivers, including the Imphal, Nambul, and Iril rivers, have risen significantly, though they remain below danger marks. The Water Resources Department is closely monitoring the situation.
Continuous light to moderate rainfall was recorded in Churachandpur district without reports of flooding so far. Landslides were reported at Awangkhul in Noney district, as well as in parts of Senapati and Kamjong, where the Senapati river has swollen considerably.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Imphal, has issued weather warnings for several districts over the next two days, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and heavy rainfall. Districts under alert include Tamenglong, Senapati, Kangpokpi, Imphal West, Imphal East, Ukhrul, Kamjong, Jiribam, Noney, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Tengnoupal, Chandel, Churachandpur, and Pherzawl.
The IMD also warned of gusty winds up to 30–40 kmph in Tengnoupal district, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected. Conditions are likely to improve after September 16.
Residents in vulnerable areas have been urged to remain cautious, avoid open spaces during thunderstorms, and follow safety advisories.
