Imphal, Oct 10: Hastkala Sahyog Shivir camp initiated by Ministry of Textiles was launch in the state today at MFDS Auditorium, Palace Compound.
The launch of the camp was jointly organise by Development Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, Council of Handicraft Development Corporation and Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Limited.
Speaking as the chief guest of the event, Dr Thokchom Meina, Lok Sabha MP said that weavers in the state need to make serious effort to promote the handloom products as they contribute to economic development of the state.
Meina also said that the main aim of the camp is to encourage the Handloom and handicraft sector in the country.
Various numbers of services including distribution of credit facilities through Mudra Scheme, assisting for technological upgradation and access to common service centre facilities will be facilitated during the camp, he added.
Meina urged the weavers to get accustoms to GST as weaving also comes under the amid of GST.
S Rajen Singh, Chairman of Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Limited; Th. Satyabarta, MLA Yaiskul Assembly Constituency; L Rameshwor, MLA Keirao Assembly Constituency graced the event as the President and Guest of Honour respectively.
Officers of Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Limited and many women weavers of the State also attended the event.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Textiles is organising ten days PAN India Handloom and Handicraft Camp in 201 handloom and 220 handicraft cluster from October 7 to October 17, 2017.
