Gunfight continues at peripheries, at least 3 reported killed

Gunfights between armed Kuki militants and the state security forces continue at periphery areas between Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts till late afternoon today. At Koutruk and Leikinthabi villages located in the periphery between Imphal West and Kangpokpi districts gun fight between the Kuki militants and the security forces was reported.
Report reaching here said that state security forces gunned down one (1) armed militant at Laingoubi areas near Khoijumantabi village in Bishnupur district. At Phougakchao Ikhai, three people were reported killed in fierce gun battle between the security force and the armed Kuki militants today morning.
Following the July 2 attack by Kuki militants at Khoijumantabi village at which three village defenders were killed, state security force deployed at the area has been vigilant. Chief Minister N. Biren Singh have also visited the site on the following day. Since July 3 evening, militants started attacking the village again. State police commandos retaliated and since then gunfight continues between the two groups till late afternoon today. On July 5 afternoon source said that the police commandos shoot down at least 5 (five) Kuki militants. Today afternoon two at least one Kuki militant was shot at by the police commando team when they tried to attack the village.
Source said that the Kuki militants had built a large bunker at the top of the hill range and from there they keep firing toward the Khoijumantabi village.
Heavy exchange of firing was also reported in Phougakchao Ikhai and adjoining Kwakta area in Bishnupur district between Manipur police commando and suspected Kuki militants. At least (three) 3 including a student were reported killed in the gun fight.
A student of Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, identified as Mayengbam Ricky Meitei, aged 19 years of Kwakta Moirang Turel Mapal was among the three killed.
Sources said he was reportedly shot dead near Kwakta sericulture office.
At Koutruk Village in Imphal West district, suspected Kuki militants attack the village at around noon today using Rocket Lancer. There is no report of any human casualty as of now. At Leikinthabi area in Imphal west district under Sekmai police station suspected armed Kuki militants attack the villages and reportedly burnt a house.
