Governor Bhalla Inaugurates MSU’s 92nd Anniversary Sports Meet in Senapati

The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, today graced the Sports Meet cum 92nd Anniversary 2025 of the Mao Students’ Union (MSU) at Punanamei in Senapati District. Organised under the theme “Empowering the Future through Sports”, the event commemorated the establishment of MSU in 1933 and its more than nine decades of service to society. During the programme, the Governor also unveiled a commemorative monolith marking the occasion.
MLA of 48 Mao AC, L Dikho; Dr. Lorho S Pfoze, President of the NPP Manipur State Unit and former Member of Parliament; the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Senapati; and the President of MSU, along with other dignitaries, were present.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Bhalla said the event conveyed a strong message of solidarity, encouragement, and national support, reinforcing a shared commitment to equitable development, expanded opportunities, and lasting harmony across the State. Highlighting the district’s rich cultural traditions and untapped potential in agriculture, horticulture, traditional crafts, sports, and eco-tourism, he reiterated the Government of Manipur’s commitment to unlocking this potential through focused development programmes, improved infrastructure and road connectivity, enhanced public services, and sustainable livelihood opportunities aligned with local aspirations.
The Governor further acknowledged the Mao region’s longstanding spirit of accommodation and mutual support, noting its role in extending shelter and assistance to various communities during challenging times.
He said that marking the anniversary through a sports meet was particularly appropriate, as sports instil discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and respect—values essential for leadership and nation-building. He added that the youth participating in the event represent the future leadership of the region, and that sports serve as an effective platform to prepare them to lead with confidence, integrity, and a spirit of service. Commending the blending of modern sporting events with indigenous disciplines, he observed that such initiatives promote holistic development while preserving cultural identity. He also noted that holding the programme during the festive season enhanced community participation and intergenerational bonding, strengthening unity and shared purpose.
The programme witnessed participation from students, athletes, community leaders, representatives of civil society organisations, and members of the public, reflecting the collective spirit. Cultural performances by artistes from diverse communities showcased the region’s rich cultural mosaic, reinforcing unity and shared heritage.
