Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, visited Churachandpur today and held an official meeting with representatives of the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. The meeting, held around noon, was convened to hear public grievances and developmental concerns raised by the Kuki-Zo community. Before the meeting the Governor accompanied by his wife the first lady inaugurated the pre-fabricated house constructed for the IDPs. The Governor also visited the relief camp of the IDP.
During the interaction, the Kuki-Zo Council submitted a memorandum highlighting thirteen major issues concerning the welfare and progress of Kuki-Zo inhabited areas. The demands included urgent upgradation of electricity capacity in Kangpokpi and Churachandpur, repair and maintenance of local roads, and measures to address landslide concerns along the Tipaimukh road. The Council also pressed for the development of key roadways linking Churachandpur to Chandel and Kangpokpi, and the appointment of a neutral Advocate General in the Manipur High Court.
Other points raised were rectification of anomalies in the District Transport Office and police jurisdiction, posting of a neutral Deputy Commissioner in Chandel, establishment of a Manipur Public Service Examination centre in Kuki-Zo districts, and clearance of pending scholarships for students. The delegation also sought improved healthcare facilities in Moreh, reliable helicopter services for hill districts, and construction of a bridge over the Imphal River in Chandel.
The Council further drew attention to the salary arrears of staff at Moreh College and SEMCO College in Tengnoupal and Chandel, pending for over ten months. Issues of administrative neutrality, accessibility of services, and overall infrastructural development were repeatedly stressed.
According to a statement issued by KZC, the Governor carefully noted all the concerns and assured that the matters would be looked into with due priority. The Council expressed gratitude to Shri Bhalla for hearing their grievances and also thanked the Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur for facilitating the meeting.
