Senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Manipur Pradesh on Tuesday criticised the Congress party, claiming that its recent allegations against the BJP were baseless and reflected growing frustration within the opposition.
BJP Manipur Pradesh Vice President N. Nimbus told reporters at Thambal Sanglen, Nityapat Chuthek, that the “venom” spread by Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi would not last long as the people had already awakened. He alleged that the Congress party had been using unparliamentary terms such as “vote chor” to mislead the public but said citizens were well aware of who had engaged in unfair practices during past elections. Nimbus added that the developmental initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s NDA government had visibly improved people’s lives, and unable to match these achievements, Congress was resorting to accusations of electoral malpractice. He further said the party had lost credibility because of scams during its tenure from 2004 to 2014.
Echoing similar views, BJP Manipur Pradesh General Secretary K. Sarat Kumar said that Congress had been completely rejected by the people, and Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a “Congress Mukt Bharat” would gain further momentum in the upcoming elections. He maintained that the public was fully aware of the party’s past corrupt practices and that repeated attempts to mislead voters would not succeed.
On Congress’s allegations of “vote theft,” Sarat Kumar pointed out that the matter had already been dealt with by the Election Commission of India (ECI), which had given its ruling. He added that investigative agencies such as the IT, ED, and CBI had also not found evidence to back Congress’s claims. He described the opposition’s campaign as an act of desperation, reminding that questions over Sonia Gandhi’s citizenship and voter rights in the past had exposed what he called the party’s unfair practices.
The BJP leader said the Congress stood exposed before the people, who, he asserted, were now politically aware and no longer swayed by misleading campaigns.
