Government says ATSUM leaders to release before 4; eco-blockade released

Government of Manipur had assured to release the five arrested student leaders of the All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) before 4 pm today. A minister of the N. Biren Singh Government said that the arrested students will be released before 4 pm today after an agreement was reached between the Government of Manipur and representatives of the ATSUM. The agreement was brought after a marathon talk between a ministerial team of the state government led by TA Minister Letpao Haokip and members of the ATSUM late yesterday.

Talking to a news channel, TA Minister Letpao Haokip said that the government has reached an agreement with the ATSUM leaders and following which the ATSUM will lift the economic blockade, and all the five members of ATSUM in Judicial Custody will be released before 4 pm today. However, till 4.00 pm, there is no report of the five ATSUM leaders being released from judicial custody.
When this newspaper tried to contact the representative of ATSUM to ask whether they would lift the economic blockade or not, none could be contacted.
