Gorkha Youths of India calls for restraint

The Gorkha Youths of India has expressed concern over recent incidents in Kanglatongbi and urged all sides to exercise restraint and ensure protection of innocent civilians, according to a press release issued by the organisation.
In the statement, President Prithibiraj Pun said Kanglatongbi has long remained a shared space of coexistence for the Nepali-speaking Gorkha community and other communities in Manipur, where people have lived together through difficult times with mutual dependence, understanding, and respect.
The organisation said it understands the emotional pain and grief of the Liangmei Naga community following the continued detention of 6 allegedly abducted individuals, and expressed solidarity with all those affected by loss and suffering. At the same time, it stated that grief and anger must not lead to the targeting or harassment of innocent civilians.
It expressed concern over reports of aggressive vehicle checking, intimidation, and the alleged assault of 3 youths on May 22, 2026, calling for immediate attention.
The press release stated that the Nepali-speaking Gorkha community of Kanglatongbi has remained neutral in the ongoing tensions, while also stressing that neutrality should not be misunderstood as weakness nor should any person of conscience remain silent when innocent people are subjected to fear, humiliation, or violence..
It further noted that Kanglatongbi has been developed over decades through the contribution and coexistence of all communities, and warned that any atmosphere of fear and insecurity forcing people to leave their homes and livelihoods would damage the social and economic fabric of the region.
