Gold bars worth around Rs. 6 Crore seized

Imphal, Oct 1: 12 pieces of gold bars weighing 19.954 Kg, which is worth around Rs. 6 crore were seized from Jiribam bound Tata Sumo vehicle at Yurembam area in Imphal West district at NH-37 today morning by officials of Custom Division Imphal.
Superintendent of Custom Division, Imphal N. Meiraba while speaking to media persons today morning at its office at Sangakpham Imphal, said that the huge consignment of gold was seized after staffs of the division check the vehicle near Power House of Yurembam area in Imphal West at around 6 am today after getting specific information about smuggling of gold along the route.
The registration number of the Tata Sumo vehicle transporting the gold bars is MN-01 G 8543. The driver is identified as Md. Nazimuddin of Lilong Turel Ahanbi and the owner of the vehicle is identified as one Md. Yasuf from Bengoon Mayai leikai.
As per statement of the Superintendent of Custom Division, Imphal,  N. Meiraba the gold bar were smuggled from Myanmar side to India but at the moment investigation is being on to find out which way the smuggler used as smuggling of such items is not possible at the International border gate at Moreh.  
Earlier on September 16, this year CISF personnel deployed at Imphal Tulihal Airport seized around 6 Kg of gold hidden at the anus of six persons trying to board for Kolkatta.
