Ukhrul, June 5:
The Global Naga Forum (GNF) has carried out a humanitarian relief mission to assist families affected by the May 7 violence in Kamjong district, where several houses in Choro, Wanglee and Namlee villages were destroyed by fire, leaving many residents displaced.
Relief materials, including food items, clothing and essential medicines, were mobilised through contributions from GNF members, well-wishers, friends and donors from Nagaland and abroad. The Forum expressed gratitude to all individuals and organisations who extended support for the mission.
The GNF Relief Team travelled from Kohima to Ukhrul on May 30 under the leadership of Convenor Chuba Ovukum and Co-Convenor Prof. Rosemary Dzuvichu. The delegation also included Tutu Jamir, Abel Chophy, Azo Wetsah and Neise Casavi.
In Ukhrul, the relief effort was coordinated by GNF General Secretary Lakpachui Siro. The team also held a solidarity meeting with representatives of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL) and other community leaders, reaffirming support for the affected families.
On May 31, the relief materials were transported to Choro village and formally handed over to village leaders outside Choro Church in the presence of local volunteers. Representatives of Wanglee and Namlee villages were requested to collect their respective shares from Choro.
The Forum urged the State Government to expedite compensation, rehabilitation and reconstruction measures for the affected communities.
