Former Manipur MLA A.S. Arthur, who represented the 44-Ukhrul Assembly Constituency, passed away today morning at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital after a prolonged illness.
Arthur had served as Minister for Forest and General Administration from 1994 to 1997 and was regarded as a prominent political figure from Ukhrul district. He is survived by his son, Alfred Kanngam Arthur, the current Member of Parliament for the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
A condolence service for the departed leader is scheduled to be held at 7 pm today at Dwaar Centre in Safdarjung, New Delhi.
Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of the veteran leader. In a condolence message, he described A.S. Arthur as a dedicated and upright public figure who served the people with integrity. He stated that the State has lost an accomplished politician and that his absence would leave a significant void in Manipur’s political landscape.
The Chief Minister also conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
