FOCS welcomes peace talks, urges early rehabilitation of IDPs

The Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur has expressed optimism over the resumption of peace talks after nearly three years of prolonged conflict, terming it a positive step toward reconciliation and restoration of normalcy.
In a statement issued by Assistant Secretary (Information & Public Relations) Tayenjam Thoiba, FOCS appreciated Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh for initiating dialogue with leaders of the Kuki-Zo Council during a meeting held in Guwahati on March 21, 2026. The federation described the engagement as a significant and historic development aimed at fostering mutual understanding among communities.
FOCS stated that the initiative reflects a commitment to rebuilding trust and promoting inclusive dialogue, expressing hope that such efforts would help restore peace and strengthen unity across the state.
The organisation also urged the government to prioritise the rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDPs), calling for early resettlement in their respective homes with adequate safety, dignity, and well-being.
Highlighting the importance of preserving Manipur’s shared heritage and territorial integrity, FOCS stressed the need to rebuild trust and harmony among communities at this critical juncture.
The federation further expressed hope that the next round of talks would be held soon and suggested that it be hosted in Imphal as a gesture of goodwill and collective commitment to peace.
FOCS maintained that continued engagement and cooperation among stakeholders would pave the way for a peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous Manipur.
