Incessant rains in the last few days has caused massive flood and rendered many villagers homeless in Thoubal district, and disrupts traffic along the Imphal-Moreh (NH-2).
While visiting the flood affected areas the Nongdambi and Wangjing rivers were found overflowing and some parts of the river banks were seen washed away by current. Villagers of Kairembikhok, Wangjing, Salungpham, Heirok, Wangbal and surrounding villages under Wangjing-Tentha and Heirok Assembly constituencies reported that a large number of fields, fish farms, ponds and streets in the area were inundated under water and many were rendered homeless. Villagers were cut off from road connectivity.
Relief camps were set-up at the area and MLA of Wangjing-Tentha, P Brojen has provided some essential commodities to flood affected villagers. However, Secretary of Kairembikhok Students Union and Club Secretary, Surchand Usam expressed his displeasure over the state government for its failure to provide relief measures at Kairembikhok area.
He also added that none of the district and local officials have visited the flood affected areas.
Meanwhile, Chakpi bridge under Chandel district has been washed out along with 5 houses that were built at the river bank. The water level at the river has been increasing and more houses are likely to be washed out. Some RCC buildings built at the bank of the river were destructed due to the flood.
