Imphal, June 8:

Assam Rifles has successfully extricated five youths who had been misled into joining insurgent groups near the Indo-Myanmar border. The rescue operation, conducted in the Tengnoupal district, highlights the Assam Rifles’ unwavering commitment to peace and security in Manipur.
The Assam Rifles claimed the five young individuals to have been recruited by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK PRO). According to AR statement, upon arriving at the rebel camps, they faced harsh living conditions and were relegated to menial tasks. The escalating conflict between the Myanmar Army and rebel forces further endangered their lives, prompting the youths to flee in search of safety.
The rescued youths were reunited with their families in an emotional ceremony held at the Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) in Mantripukhri, Imphal. AR also has shown “appreciation to their mothers who have facilitated their rescue.”
The event was attended by senior dignitaries and officials, marking a significant step towards the rehabilitation and reintegration of these individuals into mainstream society.
Lieutenant Colonel, Staff Officer (Public Relations & Media), expressed the Assam Rifles’ steadfast resolve to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the people in Manipur and the entire North Eastern Region.
