Fit India Sundays on Cycle a Nation-Wide Campaign was conducted todayat Sports Authority of India (SAI), NERC Imphal, Takyel Complex. The cycle rally was started from SAI NERC Complex Imphal to Malom Oil Depot and return back to SAI, NERC Imphal.
The cycle rally with 150 participants was flagged off by from SAI, NERC Imphal by Chief Guest, L. Ashok Kumar, Joint Director (IPR), Manipur, in the presence of Laijing L. Maring, Assistant Director, (Pers and Admin) SAI NERC Imphal; Laishram Samritya Singh, Asstt. Director (Khelo India) SAI NERC, Imphal; Pushpa Maibam, Media and Communication Officer, PIB Imphal and N. Nando, Asstt. Director (News) DDK Imphal along with other media fraternities and concerned officials.
Addressing the gathering, Shri L. Ashok Kumar, mentioned about the importance of cycling in our day today lives. He recalled that, in earlier times, cycles were the only means of transportation. Henceforth, he encouraged the general public to schedule cycling for at least 30 minutes a day for better and healthy livelihood.
The event was organized under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, with an objective to build upon the overwhelming success of earlier campaigns such as the Fit India Cycling Drive, which recorded participation from over 1.5 Crores citizen. Taking this vision forward, the Ministry proudly announced the launch of Fit India Cycling Drive- Making Cycling Sundays a Janbhagidari Movement, with the aim of making cycling an integral part of Indian lifestyles.
The “India Sundays on Cycle” campaign has rapidly involved into a National wide movement, encouraging citizens to dedicate time each Sunday to fitness and environmental awareness, in alignment with the Honourable Prime Minister’s inspiring Mantra, “Fitness Ka Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz”, the initiative highlights cycling as both a health- enhancing activity and a green alternative for daily commuting.
The Fit India Cycling Drive- Cycling Sundays perfectly embodied the essence of the Fit India Movement-promoting personal health while reinforcing environmental sustainability. By inspiring millions to adopt cycling, the initiative bridges the gap between the induvial wellness and collective responsibility towards reducing pollution and creating a healthier Planet.As a part of the event, a one-minute silent observation was observed in solidarity to the Pahalgam (Kashmir) terror attack.
