The Manipur State Shumang Leela Council (MSSLC) has paid tribute to the late Yumkham Rupachandra Gosh, a renowned Shumang Leela artist, in a heartfelt ceremony held at his residence in Khurai Thangjam Leikai, Imphal East. The tribute ceremony took place at 10:30 AM, where several dignitaries and members of the Council gathered to honor his contributions to Shumang Leela.
The ceremony was attended by MSSLC Advisor L. Tarpon, Lifetime President Ph. Gunachandra Sharma, Lifetime General Secretary Sh. Hemanta (Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee), General Secretary Y. Nilachandra, as well as various artists from both Nupa Leela and Nupi Leela genres. The Council’s members and artists paid their respects and shared their memories of the late artist.
During the ceremony, MSSLC Lifetime Secretary Sh. Hemanta expressed deep admiration for Yumkham Rupachandra Gosh’s lasting impact on the Shumang Leela community. He highlighted the late artist’s significant roles in popular productions such as Kangla Karbar, Emou Nupi, Arobki Leirang, Eyaithakki Thambal, and Paokhong. Additionally, his performances in well-known plays and songs were fondly remembered.
In his tribute, Sh. Hemanta noted that Yumkham Rupachandra Gosh’s contribution to Shumang Leela was invaluable, and his memory would continue to inspire future generations of artists. The ceremony concluded with a performance of a song in his honor, symbolizing the deep respect and recognition he earned throughout his life.
