Imphal, Dec 5:
A large number of students under the banner of the Federal Students’ Organisation, Kangleipak (FESOK), gathered today at the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) office in Babupara, locking the premises in protest against the non-appointment of a new Chairman. The students confronted police personnel deployed at the BOSEM office during the protest.
Speaking to the media, FESOK representatives stated that they were compelled to take this step due to the failure of the authorities to appoint a competent, corruption-free Chairman for the board. They pointed out that the Joint Director of the Department of Education (S) had issued a notification for the appointment of a new Chairman on October 24, yet no action had been taken.
FESOK President Kangujam Aramjit expressed disappointment after meeting the BOSEM Secretary-in-Charge, who assured them that efforts were underway to finalize the appointment. However, FESOK demanded swift action from the Department of Education and the Education Minister to resolve the issue promptly, emphasizing that the delay was adversely affecting the student community.
Aramjit also mentioned that the Secretary-in-Charge reiterated efforts to expedite the process but could not provide a definitive timeline for the appointment. Students involved in the protest stated that they would continue their agitation until a capable and corruption-free Chairman is appointed. They emphasized that the delay in addressing the matter has created frustration among students and urged authorities to avoid further escalation of the situation.
FESOK warned that if the post of Chairman is not filled in a timely manner, they will intensify their protests to demand resolution of this pressing issue for the welfare of the student community.
